I’m Mason Barnes-Crouse, a Toronto-based painter, comic artist, and illustrator. This website showcases a portfolio of paintings through which I explore the trappings of social anxiety and human isolation. In my experience, painting is a form of meditation that demands solitude, patience and focus. I work to channel this state of mind towards the creative concepts I bring to life. While I often use human figures to highlight the power of interpersonal connection against loneliness, I’m beginning to work more with empty spaces, inspired by recent travels through rural China and the 2020 pandemic.
I received my Bachelors’ in Design and Illustration from OCAD University in 2019 and have since collaborated in group art shows across Toronto and presented solo exhibits in several cafes. I moderate weekly life drawing sessions (when the world isn’t locked down) and am involved with the Toronto Comic Jam. Nowadays, I’m teaching myself plein air painting and am taking on custom commissions. Send me a note at email@example.com and let’s work together!
